I recommend...

I recommend... Trader Joe's Sirloin Filet. For $7 or $8 dollars it feeds our family of 4 well. It is a good tender cut of meat at a decent price. Saute or grill to your preference with light seasoning and serve with potatoes, rice, vegetables or on a salad. It is a good meal any day of the week!

What do you recommend that is easy and affordable?

steak & salad are always great - that looks like a lean cut of meat.

I do miss Trader Joe's; I used to buy their frozen gyoza when I was too lazy to make korean dumplings: mandu. I like there products because no yucky additives + fillers.

Another great budget option is roasting your own chicken. I really enjoy the process of roasting, and the meat can be used for so much-- enchiladas, stuffed shells, salads, etc.

I don't know what I would do without Trader Joe's! I love it. I have been going since the early 90's before they had any fresh food or prepared foods but they had the wine, olive oil, nuts, grains and cheese at good prices.

I like roasting a chicken. The best part is how the house smells... so warm and homey and inviting. I need to get better about eating the dark meat.

Salad and steak with a few chips is my favorite favorite dinner! (i think you say steak fries for chips?)

Lisa, we say french fries for the general term or just fries. Steak fries are large fat ones but it works. I know the term is chips over there in the UK. I wish I could have some of your fish and chips!!!

So glad you stopped by mommageek! TJ's IS the best!

I just wanted to let you know that I changed my blog over to luluabroad.blogspot.com

Yeh the chips in the U.K. would be slightly different again than what we'd have in Ireland. Ours are big thick cut wedges of potato about the size of your thumb - we really are potato mad - we dedicate whole restaurants to it! In the U.K. they have Fish and Chip shops where you buy...Fish and Chips, with or without peas! Here we have whats known as a "Chipper" and you can get Chips (shock) burgers, kebabs, fish, chicken... whatever!

Thanks for letting me know Lulu!

Lisa as far as chips, fries, frites, steak fries, french fries or chippers... I think any way you slice them they are good! Although I do prefer slightly crispy on the outside and very hot. Someone I knew once called them "little sticks of yum".

That steak looks great. I had no idea trader joes had that kinda stuff of available. I live in New York City, but I will definitely need to get down the Trader Joe's to get some of that steak!

I just came across your blog and wanted to say, I love it! I wish we had a Trader Joe's. I've heard so many great things about them, but never been to one. I don't think there is one near me in Alabama. How sad...

Jared- Trader Joe's is awesome. If you don't have one nearby, then stock up when you travel to one. The frozen foods are good too when in a pinch.

Jaime- Welcome. So glad you stopped by. The good thing about Trader Joes is that they seem to be expanding. Here is a list of locations. None in Alabama yet though.
