Olives in Ojai

Look! I brought you back some olives from Ojai.

Friday night in Ojai, we dined at a little restaurant called Suzanne's Cuisine. It was just a hop skip and a jump from the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa where we were staying for the wedding. The meal we had was lovely but I especially loved the olives that were served with the warm bread at the start of the meal. I could have made a meal of those and the toasty 'n tasty french bread! They were thick and meaty and full of garlic and good olive oil flavor.

Upon inquiring about them, I found out that they buy the olives from a distributer and wash them to get rid of some of the vinegar then soak them in their own garlic and olive oil mixture. Suzanne, the namesake and part owner, agreed to sell some to me when I departed on Sunday. She dug up this cute little jar and had it all ready to go. Now they are in my refrigerator and I am rationing them for a little while. They are just so good and perfect to pair with fresh bread, cheese and wine. All my favorites!

Maybe I'll try to make my own soon! Where do I buy the olives though? Any clues?

Next up: Wedding pics! The event and food was just amazing!

Hmm since you're rinsing off the vinegar/marinade anyway you could probably just pick up a jar of olives from the store. Or someplace like Whole Foods or Ralphs with an olive bar.

Sounds yummy! We'll be in your neck of the woods next week - yay, sunny southern California!

Darius- I do too!!

Kate- I thought of that but thought maybe I could get them in bulk cheaper somewhere. But maybe I can practice with the ones I have here. I have some I think are too strong/vinegary.

Sherry- Oh good. How long will you be here? Do you have any fun things planned?

Hi Nicole,
Yes, We're going to stay in Studio City one night. Hubby and I will celebrate our 24th anniversary, Miss E gets a couple of acting lessons, and our son is going to check out a 3-D Animation school -if all goes as planned anyway! Hey, we might also go to a children's bookstore in Irvine - near the university- on Friday (the 3rd) that is featuring the artist/author of a few children's books who also illustrated the Spiderwick Chronicles. Is that close enough for you to get to with your kiddos?

Mamageek- Me too. I just love olives as do both my kids.

Gloria- Aren't they yummy.

Laura- Do they have less? Good to know!!! I like the green just as well or more than the black.

Sherry- It sounds like you have a fun trip planned. Are you going to "Whale of a Tale"? It is not very far... I will have to check out the time and see how it coincides with nap time. But the last week my son has only napped 2 days. At 2 1/2 I am VERY afraid if he is getting rid of it. I need that quiet time. He is soooo active and busy. Let me know what your plans are.
