Ménage à Trois!

I thought that might grab your attention! Ménage à trois literally translated means "household of three." So get your mind out of the gutter! Nothing but food porn here! Hee hee hee.

In this instance I am referring to three kinds of pizza on the grill. Sounds like the makings of a summer Sunday night dinner chez moi!

This time I used Amy's recipe for the dough. You can find it on her blog, Familia Bencomo. I was in the mood to do a few different kinds of pizza. Traditional red sauce is good but it is always fun to mix it up. When grilling pizza things go REALLY fast sometimes so have all your toppings ready to go and standing by. I also find it works best to use a smaller size dough as it is easier to flip. I grill one side until beginning to be a light golden brown and then flip it and begin to add toppings.

I started with a chicken Alfredo pizza. On this I put Alfredo sauce first. Try making your own Alfredo. It is so easy and takes just minutes. You can really taste the difference. In most all recipes I have seen, it is simply an equal part of butter, cream and fresh parmesan. Salt and pepper to taste and add a little fresh ground nutmeg for that little extra... je ne sais quois!

Then I topped with mozzarella, chicken (left over from the night before) and carmelized onion and garlic (on only half as the kids would balk at it on their pieces.)

Secondly, I made one pizza with pesto and slices of fresh mozzarella. This one wasn't my favorite as the pesto was purchased and just not up to par. It was too salty or something. Not sure what the problem was. I need to just make my own as it isn't that hard at all.

Thirdly, to appease my kids favorite as well as my husband, I made a pepperoni pizza. Marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni... you know the drill on this one.

I cut the pizza up into small strips so it was easier for the kids and we could try all the concoctions.

We all had fun and it is a great family treat. Or try it with a group of friends. Have all the toppings ready and near the grill and let everyone top their own for "personal" do-it-yourself grilled pizzas! My old roommates and I did it all the time. Back in the good old days living on Balboa Island!

Well you certainly got MY attention! Funny, I'm making pizza right this very minute... well my dough is rising. Thank you so much for mentioning me. Did you notice the difference with the dough when you agitated the yeast & water first? I have yet to try the pizza on the grill, but I need to try that. I know it will be a huge hit here once I get over that hurdle.

Oh, I thought of you when I bought mini US flags for cupcakes yesterday at Michael's. I'm going to use them for treats during the Olympics. 7 cents a package!!! Super-sale after the 4th.

You crack me up with your dirty jokes ;)

My husband and I are going to buy a grill tonight, and grilled pizza is at the top of my to-do list. At the kitchen store where I work, they make the dough and pre-grill it a day or two before parties, then add the toppings and grill the second side right when it's time for dinner. Your flavor combos sound tasty!

Peter- I THOUGHT that might get your attention!!! htne??? does that mean something?

Lulu- Oh you should try grilling pizza! It is easy if you keep them small or personal sized.

Amy- Oh the whole dough thing is another story. I started w/ your method of agitating and the yeast didn't seem to respond. I threw it out. It was REALLY old. So then I used a rapid rise yeast and continued w/ your recipe. After 1/2 hour it hadn't done much and I was going to the store anyway so I bought more yeast and made another batch. But the kids were chomping at the bit so I used the first dough and the second (which rose really well) got put in the freezer for another day!

Mamageek- Glad I could make you salivate.

Kate- I can't remember where I got it. Probably Sur La Table. They aren't expensive.

Erin- For a party once I pre-grilled my dough a couple hours early on my panini press and then topped and put in the oven for the party. It was pretty smooth.

What a great idea to do this on the grill, keeps the kitchen cooler. Three different ones is fantastic, pleases everyone. Fun!

I make pizza with my nephews all the time. They like to make funny face pizzas. So we use ingredients like a black olive slice on top of a pepperoni slice for the eyes, green pepper rings and mushrooms are good for decorating too, but they say taste like Yuck. haha

Menage a trois, quatre, cinq... hehehe. The more the merrier right? err.. i'm talking about pizza of course! :-)

You sure got my attention! Haha the pizzas look great. I love your blog!

I checked out your Miss'N Nick blog too & I was wondering what inspired you to start your own business.

Grilled pizza sounds so good! I especially liked the idea of the alfredo sauce. Nice change from the usual red. I'm impressed that you own a pizza Peel. I need to get one of those!

Robin- It IS very fun to do a few different kinds.

Lori Lynn- Making pizzas with kids is perfect fun. My daughter likes to work her own dough out. By the time she is done (and carried it around etc...) it is LITERALLY grey! I sneak it into the trash.

Zen- Of course it is the more the merrier! With (almost) everything! I can imagine the fabulous parties you'd have with a grill on your roof.

Katie- Thank you! And welcome. I basically started my own business as I was tired of regular graphic design and thought it would be fun and easy. I got the first half right. But ... It is HARD! And sooo much work.

Michelle- You must get a peel. I love it!

Nicole, I love pizza on the grill too, the dough comes out so crispy.
It's a lot lighter than most takeout, and great for a party. Love all your toppings, yummm!

Pizza looks great. I had grilled pizza once at a BBQ and it was delicious. Looks like yours came out well. Too bad about the pesto.

Proud Italian- Thanks! It is great for a party. So much fun.

Jared- You ought to try grilled pizza. You can put some of your famous BBQ sauce on it and make a BBQ chicken pizza!

Hope you're having a great summer. My blogging is sporadic at the moment, but I'm having a lot of fun with family and friends here in Washington State.
